Popcorn varies partners without looking at skill. Balanced mixer builds each round from everyone’s rating: both sides of a game have a close level.
The Rally Leagues screens are in French for now. Each label is quoted as it reads on screen, with its meaning in English.
- In « Rondes » (Rounds), under « Mode de rotation » (Rotation mode), pick « Mixer équilibré » (Balanced mixer) in « Mode ».
- Pick the « Tolérance d’écart » (Gap tolerance): tight, normal or wide.
- Click « Changer le mode » (Change the mode). The mode applies to every session of the program, from the next round.
- Start rounds as usual, with synchronized rounds or a court queue.
How Rally balances the round
- Rally brings the average rating of both sides close, then the level of the players in the same game.
- Rally looks for a round where no game goes beyond the tolerance. If it finds none, the proposed round says so.
- Rest and the waiting queue follow the same rules as Popcorn.
- Rally still avoids partners already paired tonight.
The reasons
- Each game shows the gap between its two sides, on the 1.0 to 10.0 rating: balanced within 0.1, for example.
- A provisional rating is flagged: a player has few rated games, or none. They start from the starting rating in the program’s rating rules.
Good to know
- A tight tolerance balances better, but varies opponents less. A wide one does the opposite.
- A round already started keeps its games when you change the mode.
