Rally is free tournament software built in Quebec for in-person sports: courts, sheets of ice, tables and gyms. This page is the full inventory of what it does, what is free, what is paid and what Rally does not do. If you are weighing Rally against Challonge, Score7 or another bracket maker, this is the page to start from.
Tournament formats: five engines, not just one bracket
Rally’s free tournament software covers the formats clubs and recreational organizers actually run.
Format
What Rally handles
Single elimination
Automatic byes, seeding, third-place match
Double elimination
Losers bracket, grand final with optional reset
Round robin
Single or double round robin, live standings
Swiss system
Round count worked out for you, round-by-round pairing between teams with similar records
Pool play into a finals bracket
Several pools, qualification, crossover between pools, finals bracket seeded from the standings
You pick the format when you create the tournament and the engine generates every game. Nothing is drawn by hand.
This is what sets Rally apart from a plain bracket generator. Once the tournament starts, Rally places the games on your courts and in your time slots, taking into account:
game length and court turnaround time;
minimum rest between two games of the same team;
each court’s availability window (the gym closes at 5 p.m., so does the schedule);
several pools running in parallel on different courts;
moving one game without rebuilding the whole grid: every other court keeps its time.
Every team sees which court to show up on, not just who they play.
Printing and exports: printable bracket, schedule, games as CSV, ICS calendar.
Templates: save a tournament and run it again next year without starting over.
Public directory: list your tournament in Rally’s indexed directory so people can find it on Google. Public tournaments
Rally Leagues: the league manager for recurring seasons
Rally Leagues is sports league management software, separate from the tournament engine, built for curling clubs, sports clubs and recreational leagues.
Structure and rules
Organization → League → Season → Division → Team → Player hierarchy.
Rules per division: one season can hold divisions with different points schemes.
Sport profiles: curling, cornhole, recreational hockey, softball, volleyball and pickleball, plus “other sport”. Each profile comes with starting rules the club can change.
Three result types: simple score, win/loss, or sets (target, minimum margin, cap).
Schedule
Generated season schedule built by a solver on shared venues (sheets, courts) and recurring time slots, accounting for other leagues booked at the same venue.
Scheduling constraints written in plain language: hard rules and preferences.
Impact preview before saving a closure or an exception.
Draft, then publish: a moved game changes nothing for teams until the new version is published. Managing postponements
ICS calendar and CSV export of the published season.
Games, standings and playoffs
Full game lifecycle: scheduled, in progress, final, awarded (forfeit, abandonment, withdrawal), cancelled, voided, with audited score corrections.
Live standings with ordered tiebreakers, shared ranks when warranted, points ratio for set-based formats.
Playoffs in single or double elimination, seeded from the season standings.
Exhibition games kept out of the standings.
Statistics, generic and multi-sport, based on who actually played.
Teams, roles and season end
Teams that carry over from one season to the next; withdrawing a team shows first what happens to its upcoming games.
Roles: league admin, team coach, scorekeeper by league, division or team; secure named invitations for staff.
Season close with frozen standings, then selective season rollover (you choose each team’s division for next season).
Public season page, no account needed: schedule, results and standings.
Notifications to participants when the schedule changes, with adjustable settings.
Data and integrations
Canadian hosting (Montreal) and Quebec Law 25 compliant anonymization when an account is deleted.
Public REST API (scoped keys) and signed webhooks to sync results and registrations with your website. Available on request.
Rally Leagues starts with a guided setup: tell us about your league and we prepare the first season with you.
Yes. One active tournament at a time, with every format, scheduling, registration, live scores and exports. The $9 CAD/month plan only lifts the volume limit.
Can I customize tiebreakers in Rally?
Yes. In round robin and pool play, you choose the primary criterion, the points scheme and the tiebreaker order: point differential, points for, points against, head-to-head, wins.
Do players need to create an account?
No. Captains, scorekeepers and spectators use a link. Only the organizer has an account.
Is Rally a good Challonge alternative?
For in-person sports, yes: Rally generates the schedule on your courts and time slots (rest, turnaround, availability), with no ads, and also runs season-based leagues. For esports, paid registration or player profiles, Challonge remains the better fit.
Does Rally handle leagues, not just tournaments?
Yes. Rally Leagues runs full seasons: dated schedule, divisions, standings, playoffs, season close and rollover. The first season is free.
Rally covers the whole cycle of a local competition: format, scheduling on your courts, registration, live scores, then leagues across seasons, without making players sign up.
